While the debris of the bombing atrocities
in Kuta Bali is still not fully settled yet, and missing persons
have yet to be fully accounted for, we from the tourism industry
are facing another daunting and critical challenge: survival
of the industry itself. Tourism is the lifeblood of Bali,
and this devastating event will heavily damage Bali, its economy,
and ultimately, its people. Beyond Bali, other destinations
in Indonesia will also suffer seriously.
What is at stake here is over $10 billion
industry: over $5 billion coming from international visitors
and over $5 billion from domestic travel. The industry employs
tens of thousands of people, feeding even more families and
children.
We
need to take actions!

What
can we do? This site is created with the simple objective is to
get the brain dump of the industry players and everyone else, in
Bali, in other parts of Indonesia, as well as in other parts of
the world.
To start off, we have an idea for Global
Wake Party in Bali. We would love to have your support and
ideas to get this idea rolling
If we learn from what
the US has done to revive their tourism industry after Sep 11,
there are two major principles:
- Ensuring Safety & Security
The travel industry in the US supports new federal regulations
to increase security of travel, and reviews its own security procedures.
- Rebuilding Confidence of Travelers
Through Promotions, PR, Forums, and Intelligence Gathering
The specific actions taken include asking the government for tax
credit, federal funding and Small Business financing. Read
more here
The impact of what they have done is clearly encouraging: Manhattan
hotels occupancy rate was only down by 15% within 4 months of Sep
11! That's the kind of result that we want for Bali and other destinations
in Indonesia - or better
