DENPASAR (indo.com): Pakudui Village in Tegalalang regency
is recognized as the village of Garuda. The villagers make
many kinds of statue from different varieties of wood but
predominantly they all make Garuda statues.
If we talk of Pakudui Village, we cannot ignore Made Ada,
a man who has sold Garuda statues around the world. And
because of his contribution, the villagers in Pakudui can
get many benefits by tourists visiting the village to buy
statues.
If we want to know more about the Garuda Statue, it is as
well to know the master first, I Made Ada. Made is best
known for his Garudas and traditional panel work. The Made
Ada Art Gallery also produces many types of Animals, Dragons
and Human figures that are of the highest quality.
Panels depicting the Mahabrata and Ramayana stories are
very detailed and life-like making them sought after by
collectors and galleries. Made's hand carved doors, windows
and furniture have also become popular throughout Asia and
the west for their artistic qualities. The Garuda and Balinese
lion sculptures produced by Made are renown and are displayed
in presidential palaces, museums and homes around the world.
Made
Ada Sculptor was established in 1966, focusing on making
exquisitely hand carved sculptures and three-dimensional
paneling from the best woods available in Asia. Simply because
he needed to earn money, a young Made Ada began to make
his fortune as a wood carver in his house at Pakudwi - Kedisan,
Tegalalang, Gianyar, Bali - Indonesia.
In 1990, Made personally supervised and instructed 150 workers
from around his village. And now many of them have started
their own companies. Today Made Ada is still a great teacher
for the 30 artisans that work in his company. All of his
assistants have their own individual talent as a sculptor
as well as their master.
Made insists on only producing art that is worth putting
his name and reputation to, however, because of the value
for money price and quality, it is impossible to keep items
in stock all the time.
A
variety of woods are used, for example, Teak, Balinese Jack,
Ebony, Marbao, and Sandal Wood. Other woods are available
to special order. These woods can be polished or kept as
natural wood finish or even painted. The paints used are
of the best quality and will withstand many years of heavy
weathering without fading. Twenty-two karat gold paint and
gold leaf are also available and used frequently. Prices
vary slightly with the cost of raw materials and amount
of labor involved in production. And most of these materials
are come from around Indonesia to get the high quality for
his works.
Located in the countryside with a natural atmosphere, Made
always gets inspiration to produce his world wide known
sculptures. He combines modern tools to produce his work
with traditional hand-tools to guarantee the artistic value
of his products.
