Bali's Les Village developed into tourism destination
DENPASAR (indo.com): Les Village, Tejakula District,
Buleleng Regency in Bali has been evolved into a new tourism
destination that blends tourism and fishery.
Les Village has been developed into tourism destination
based on a concept that mixes tourism and fishery thanks
to local villagers' commitment to preserve sea habitat,
fishery and coral reefs. The village has served as a role
model of a nature-friendly tourism destination in Bali.
Les Village was officially declared as the Fishery-Tourism
Village on September 28, 2003 in a ceremony attended by
Sarwono Kusumaatmadja from the State Ministry Office of
Sea and Fishery, Widi AG Despratikno from the Directorate
General of Coast and Small Islands Development, representatives
of ASITA (the Association Of the Indonesian Tours &
Travel Agencies) Bali, those from Gahawisri (the Association
of Water Tourism Entrepreneurs) Bali, local authorities,
and local villagers.
Les Village has two-kilometer-long coastline. Local villagers
are grouped into traditional fishermen who catch fishes
for meal and into those catching tropical fish for decoration.
A villager working as a diving guide said that at least
300 visitors, mostly Europeans, visited the village every
month. A lovely waterfall, alongside the potential coast,
is another tourism attraction in Les Village.
