Kites decorate Bali blue sky
DENPASAR (indo.com): Hundreds of kites in a myriad of
forms and colors again decorated the blue Bali skies on
July 22, treating foreign travellers to yet another aspect
of the island's unique culture.
This year's Bali Kite Festival, held from July 5-8, delighted
many local residents and foreign travellers, and locals
therefore decided to hold the festival again on July 22.
The one-day event took place in a spacious rice field
in Renon Village from 11 am. to 7 pm.
Visitors could view both new and traditional kite designs,
including the fish-shaped bebean, the arch-shaped pecukan
and the janggan, which takes the form of a bird with a
tail stretching up to 100 meters.
The festival, organized by several kite fans and some
banjars (community associations), was aimed at promoting
solidarity and co-operation among the regions.
The annual kite festival is usually held in the breezy
months of June and July.
