Badas or Sumbawa Besar is the age-old Capital of West Sumbawa. Once the seat of powerful Sultanate from South Celebes, the township and surrounding villages offer fascinating insight into traditional Indonesian culture. It is also the site of a beautiful natural harbour with excellent diving and snorkeling location. The ship arrives during the breakfast after which passengers will embark on local tours. The tour programs for Oceanic Odyssey's passengers offered at no additional cost include a morning visit to the village of Pamulung for a walk through the village culminating in a reenactment of a traditional wedding ceremony, traditional dances and an exciting local bull race of mystic origins. After lunch on board Oceanic Odyssey's passengers are offered opportunity to select either a tour of the city and its local markets or a visit to the village of Perung for a presentation of traditional sports. Those passengers wishing a more relaxed afternoon can stay on board the ship or take a complimentary shuttle to nearby Kencana Beach. The ship sails from Badas in the afternoon and a special evening's entertainment is planned. |

The ship will arrive early morning after passing through the Komodo Strait during the night. After breakfast against the dramatic backdrop of the National Park, passengers will disembark early enough to afford a cool morning walk in the company of the Park's rangers to the site where the dragons usually congregate. The forest here is also home to deer, wild boar, sulphur-crested cockatoos, noisy Friar birds and the rare mound-building Megapode birds. Whales and Dolphins are often seen in the straits at Komodo. Growing up to three metres in length and weighing as much as two hundred kilograms, these dragons make an awe-inspiring sight as they stalk through the forest just metres away. Following an approximate 4-kilometre trek to view the dragons, passengers will be ferried to the "Pink beach" which offers excellent snorkelling and water sports activities. Exclusive to Oceanic Odyssey's passengers and weather permitting, a sumptuous luncheon buffet will be served on the beach at Komodo. Once passengers are back on board, the Oceanic Odyssey's will set sail from Komodo passing the picturesque islands of the Park while perhaps enjoying a drink at the pool side bar. |
