The MV Oceanic Odyssey is the latest and most luxurious addition to the fleet of Spice Island Cruises. Designed in Holland and built in Japan in 1989, this vessel is the most sophisticated cruise ship of its size currently in operation anywhere in the world. It provides unprecedented comfort. Luxury and attention to detail. With a maximum passenger capacity of 120 passengers quartered in 60 suites, the Oceanic Odyssey's staterooms provide the highest standards of comfort afloat. All cabins have ocean views, and the nine suites on the uppermost accommodation deck have patios. Each cabin has a safe, mini-bar, individually controlled air-conditioning, VCRs, in-room music system, coffee-and tea-making facilities and a separate sitting area. Passengers can even track the progress of their voyage by means of a Global Positioning System broadcast to every cabin. Beds can be configured for twin or queen-size sleeping arrangements. The bathrooms have a shower and a small bathtub and are provided with a complete array of toiletries and a hair dryer. All five passenger decks are serviced by a central lift; and one of the ship's suites is configured for disabled travellers. The Oceanic Odyssey maintains a gourmet-standard kitchen staffed by Spice Island Cruises' master chefs. The freshest fish is bought at morning markets along the ship's route - a feat impossible on larger cruise ship. The ship's cuisine offers both International and Indonesian specialties; and the chefs make every effort to accommodate special dietary requirements. Breakfast and lunch are served in the sunny Day Lounge, where guests may choose between the comfort of air-conditioning or the dine al fresco by the pool. Evening meals are served in the elegant Main Dining Room where passengers dine at a single sitting. As one would expect on a ship that celebrates food and drink, the Oceanic Odyssey has a dedicated wine cellar maintained at a constant atmospheric standard to ensure that the fine vintages stocked aboard travel as well as the guest. Leisure hours not spent ashore exploring the ship's ports-of-call, may be spent in the small but well-stocked library; listening to the ship's band in the main bar; or making new friends in the intimate Captain's Bar. Bridge tours are available for those interested in learning about the ship's state-of-the-art navigational systems. The wooden upper deck is a favourite place for sunbathing; or you can join an organised exercise programme led by one of the cruise staff. Other facilities include a spacious, well-equipped gymnasium; separate men's and women's saunas and cold dip baths; a swimming pool; a Jacuzzi; a dedicated jogging track on the ship's uppermost sun deck; a hair-dressing salon; and a boutique. Complete snorkelling facilities are ready will help those passengers eager to stay in shape, determined to compensate for the sumptuous meals on board, or who want to glimpse an underwater paradise. The Oceanic Odyssey also has a fully-equipped Medical Centre staffed by a registered physician; and its INMARSAT telecommunication system allows 24-hour telephone and facsimile communication to and from anywhere in the world. |
