Balinese children to display remarkable works
DENPASAR
(indo.com): Balinese children will display and sell their
works in a program called the 'Children's Arts Exhibition'
at the Seniwati Showspace, Jalan Raya Ubud, from May 5
to June 5, 2002.
Part of the proceeds will go to the artists themselves,
with another part going to the Sanggar Muda own bank account
to finance educational trips for the children.
All the participating children are winners of the Annual
Schoolgirls Talent Competition organized by the Seniwati
Gallery of Art by Women in Ubud, held to celebrate Indonesian
Mother's Day on December 22. They are offered a free place
in the Seniwati Sanggar Muda.
Each year up to 9 girls are offered places in the school
for as long as they choose to remain, with the cost of
tuition and materials being covered by individual sponsors
from the international community.
The
Seniwati Sanggar Muda currently has about 38 students,
ranging in age from 5 to 17 years old. They have often
been invited by top hotels in Bali to visit and paint
in beautiful locations, along with their teacher who is
a Balinese artist of some renown. The children enjoy drawing
and painting in the area around the hotel, either taking
their inspiration from the lovely surroundings or simply
from their imagination.
If you would like to sponsor one of these children, Rp
300,000 per year will cover the tuition and materials
costs.
