Jakarta told hold International Arts Cultural and Educational
Festival
JAKARTA (indo.com): Travelers to Jakarta will have a
special treat when various forms of arts and cultural
performances are presented for 30 days in June, 2002.
The JakArt@2002 working committee together with regional
Administration of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta
will once again hold the JakArt@2002 international festival
of Arts, culture and education the whole month of June
2002 in Jakarta.
JakArt said in a statement that last year's festival
that transformed Jakarta into a giant stage presenting
approximately 350 art performances, will be back during
30 days all through the month of June 2002 with art activities
in the frame of the 475th anniversary of Jakarta.
It said that this year's JakArt@2002 will maintains its
specific characteristic of celebrating the pluralism of
art and the freedom of expression with the Jakarta community
and its surroundings, while focusing on educational activities
colored with art for the people. "The festival's
activities are expected to bring some cheer in the life
of the people of Jakarta who recently suffered several
disasters," it said.
The festival will also be the forum of artistic cooperation
between various cultures and various disciplines in the
aspect of science, exchange of art and the fostering of
friendship among artist on a national as well as on an
international scale. The festival also will be a forum
of empowering the people so that they may partake in the
responsibility to spread the culture and the art of the
city where they live.
JakArt@2002 will hold performances in the major areas
of Jakarta, located in various offices, theatres, parks,
schools, in the yards of houses of worship, and also in
various strategic locations on the fringe of Jakarta.
There will be a variety of activities such as music, drama,
sculptures, painting, dances, "art happenings",
architecture, film etc. At this occasion a number of international
and national artist have stated their willingness to appear
on these Jakarta cultural stages, including Monas Festival,
Kemang Street Festival, Teater Bunga, Teater Esok, Teater
Abu, Sena Didi Mime, Talago Buni (Sumatera Barat), Parang
Maya (Kutai), Interregous Dialogue, Carrousel Dance (Moskow),
Yuji Takahashi (Japan), Daphne Zepos (France/Greece),
