Local and foreign visitors to Bali inspected

DENPASAR (indo.com): After the Bali bombing, all visitors to Bali, whether citizens of Indonesia or foreign countries, must be inspected. The policy also requires foreign national residents in Bali to be observed by local civil authorities.

In order to keep Bali safe, all Indonesian nationals are expected to possess local identity cards (KTP) and be beneficially employed in Bali in order to be allowed to stay for extended periods. Badung government official Dewa Nym Oka, in charge of civil registration, said that foreigners staying in private residences are required to show their identity cards. While in Bali, those foreigners must be registered as the temporary residents (locally called Surat Keterangan Pendaftaran Penduduk Sementara / SKPPS), as well as having proof of domicile (locally called Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal / SKTP).

He also reported that around 12 foreign residents in the Tanjung Benoa area of South Bali were under scrutiny for proper registration, primarily the possession of Permanent Resident's Permits (KITAP) or Temporary Resident's Permits (KITAS).

The regulation of the control of residency has actually been in force since 1998. Under Bali's Badung Regency's 1998 regulations, enforcement teams, including members of the local community, have been formed to control residency issues.
