Balinese, ASEAN artists create collaborative works
DENPASAR (indo.com): Balinese and ASEAN painters collaborated
at the Blanco Museum and AMA Museum, Ubud - Gianyar, Bali
on May 8, 2002.
The ASEAN painters came to Bali not only to collaborate
with the local painters, but also to experience spirit
of artistry at the museums. They were also entertained
by some Balinese traditional dances.
Mario Blanco, son of Bali's renowned painter the late
Antonio Blanco, said that the collaboration was aimed
at bringing new images to the world of Balinese painting,
particularly in terms of the appearance of Balinese colors.
A collaborated work on a 2 X 1.4 meter canvas was produced
in less than 30 minutes. The creators were Mario Blanco
from Bali, Nguen Tam Coung and Do Duy Tuan from Vietnam,
and Ketma Pate from Singapore.
Similar collaboration was also carried out in ARMA Museum
where other ASEAN painters worked together with local
artists. One of them was Dewa Nyoman Batuan from Bali.
The works will be presented to President Megawati. Moreover,
the Director of ARMA Museum, A.A. Gde Rai said that this
event is to become the starting point for further interaction
between ASEAN and Balinese artists.
