Make Bali free of air pollution

DENPASAR (indo.com): Minister of Environmental Life, Nabiel Makarim has said that the government is considering making Bali free of air pollution by obliging cars to use free lead petrol.

The Minister met Bali Governor on May 1, 2002, and said that the use of lead free petrol will first be introduced during the Preparatory Committee Meeting (PrepCom) IV - Ministerial level for World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Nusa Dua, from May 27 to June 7. The lead free petrol is expected to be widely used in Bali after that, he said, adding that the fuel would be supplied from Singapore.

The use of lead free petrol will be introduced in conjunction with Environment Day on June 5. Points to be discussed in the upcoming summit include plans to rank the environmental industry businesses in order to develop a business culture which respects the environment and to raise people's awareness of such issues. There are also plans to ensure people's active participation in in such activities, including having Environment day under public supervision.
