RI sees increasing foreign tourist arrivals
JAKARTA (indo.com): Indonesia saw a 15.16% increase in
the number of foreign tourist arrivals to 366,700 as of
March 2002, compared to 318,500 in February of this year.
The State Statistics Bureau's (BPS) Deputy Chief Slamet
Mukeno said that cumulatively, the number of foreigners
visiting Indonesia through 13 entry gates reached 992,000
or a 1.35% increase compared to 978,800 for the same period
in 2001, detik.com reported.
He said that Bali remains the country's number one tourism
destination, with the number of foreign travelers reaching
119,000 for March 2002 and 311,300 for January-March period.
Meanwhile, The hotel occupancy rate at star-rated hotels
in 10 tourism destinations reached 40% in February, or
a slight decrease compared to an occupancy rate of 44.52%
in January of this year.
The average length of stay at star hotels reached 2.24
days for February 2002, a slight drop compared to 2.48
days in January of this year.
