American artist Pablo Gentile to display his works
in Ubud
DENPASAR (indo.com): US's artist Pablo Gentile will display
his works at Gaya Gallery on Jl. Raya Sayan, Ubud, Bali.
The exhibition with the theme "The Alchemy of Asia"
will run from June 1 through July 20, 2004. The opening
ceremony will be held at Gaya Fusion of Senses on June
1, at 7 p.m.
The artist has selected Ubud as a venue for his coming
solo exhibition because Ubud is well known as a center
of artists. As a Western artist, Pablo is personally impressed
by Eastern culture, history and philosophy.
The solo-exhibition will showcase Gentile's diverse paintings,
including his earlier and most recent works. His earlier
works are characterized by bold, imagery colors, large
brush strokes and hard edges.
Pablo Gentile was born in New York, USA in 1951. He majored
in art history, theatrical design and studied painting
3 dimensional designs under the guidance of Paul Tshinkle
at University of New York (1971). He also studied life
drawing at New York Arts Student League (1973-1975) and
established Entropy Studios with fellow artists specializing
in set design for Off-Off Broadway Productions. In 1970s,
he exhibited graffiti works throughout New York City.
Gentile's paintings are part of a series of seven works
on canvas incorporating acrylic, mixed media and collage
elements; marked by a powerful atmosphere of mystery and
veneration. Several of his works speak to the solitary
journey of the soul, spiritual inspiration, earthly temptation
and the renewing cycle of life and death.
