BTB's role in next Nusa Dua World Summit
DENPASAR (indo.com): The new Bali Tourism Board (BTB)
has been given the go ahead to handle the accommodation,
transportation, and tours for the delegations of the Preparatory
Committee Meeting IV (PrepCom IV), and the World Summit
on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Nusa Dua, Bali from
May 27 to June 7, 2002.
The delegations are expected to number 6,000 people from
189 countries from all over the world, including some
countries that have no diplomatic affairs with Indonesia.
On April 30, 2002, Vice Secretary of Prepcom IV-WSSD
committee, I Ketut Muliarta in Denpasar, explained that
the choice of BTB to handle the world delegations was
largely due to the demands of the Bali Governor, I Dewa
Made Beratha.
PrepCom IV-WSSD in Nusa Dua is the preparation for the
Earth Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg,
South Africa, from August 26 to September 4, 2002. The
PrepCom IV-WSSD in Nusa Dua focus on the forming of recommendation
to propose in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, the Environmental Life Exhibition that will
be joined in by all provinces of Indonesia is scheduled
to take place in central Park Nusa Dua, from June 4 to
June 7, 2002.
Sri Hudyastuti, the Assistant Deputy in Information Affairs
of Environmental Life Ministry, said that the commemoration
of the World Environment Day on June 5 is planned to take
place in Nusa Dua, and is scheduled to be officially opened
by President Megawati, who will present some environmental
awards.
