Painter Supriyanto to display works in Seniwati Gallery

DENPASAR (indo.com): Scores of works by Javanese artist Sri Supriyatini will be on display at the Seniwati Gallery, in the Taman Sub village of Ubud, Bali, following her exhibition in Canberra, Australia. With the theme 'In Praise of Women', the exhibition will start on November 4, 2001 and will run through November 29, 2001.

Supriyatini participated in the Sixth 'Women in Asia' conference in Canberra, Australia last month, presenting a paper on women artists in Bali.

In the upcoming solo exhibition, she aims to share her experiences of the month-long exhibition in Australia to all Balinese women artists with a keen interest in fine art.

Central to Supriyatini's vision is that life is an ever-changing kaleidoscope of color, harshness and softness. She tries to express her feelings and responses to this emotional environment in her art, often choosing mossy, stoney tones.

She is particularly impressed with women living in Bali because they are so dedicated to their families and work so hard to support their husband and children. In fact, others' comments on their dedication to family, community and religion is a source of pride to the Balinese.
