Uis Nipis Karo |
Another exquisitely worked ceremonial cloth of the Batak Karo people of North
Sumatra.
Probably worn as a head-cloth for ceremonies, this striking piece consists
of a burgundy coloured ground, the centre field patterned with indigo ikat
"arrowhead" designs, alternating with fine gold, white and red stripes.
The twined warp-end borders are particularly fine, finished with plied and
twisted fringe. Handspun, handwoven cotton with natural dyes.
