Bali to host World Environment Conference
DENPASAR (indo.com): Bali will host the World Environment
Conference participated in by 189 countries of the United
Nations. The conference will be held from May 27 to June
3, 2002
Minister of Environment Nabiel Makarin, accompanied by
Coordinating Minister of Politics and Security Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono, met the Bali government officials at
the Wiswa Sabha Building in Denpasar on February 19, 2002
to assess the facilities required for the upcoming conference.
Bali Government Officials were represented by Bali Governor
Dewa Made Beratha, Chairman of the Provincial Assembly
(DPRD) of Bali, Ida Bagus Putu Wesnawa and Head of Bali
Police Department (Kapolda), Brig. Gen. of Police, Budi
Setyawan.
The former minister of settlement and regional infrastructure,
as well as representatives of the Sheraton Hotel Nusa
Dua (where the event will take place) will attend the
meeting.
Bali was selected as the alternative venue for the event,
held once in 20 years, considering that Jakarta has recently
been inundated by flooding due to heavy rains and incompetent
environmental management by the government.
